English Wilton 'Axminster' oversize carpet (780 x 485cm)

780 x 485 cm  //  25ft 7" x 15ft 11"

This pale Victorian handmade carpet was produced in the Royal Wilton mill in Wiltshire the successors to Axminster Carpet factory which closed circa 1835. The carpet was most likely woven on an Axminster loom partly accounting for the popular misnomer of 'Axminster'.
